Yes, and for some clients this is the best approach. I typically recommend completing a course of polynucleotides first to rebuild skin quality, then reassessing whether filler is still needed. If it is, placing filler into improved skin gives a more natural, longer-lasting result than placing it into thin, compromised skin would have done.

Which treatment is safer for the under-eye area?

Both are safe when performed correctly, but they carry different risk profiles. Polynucleotides cannot be dissolved once placed, so conservative dosing is essential. Filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if there is a problem, which is an advantage. However, filler placed poorly in the under-eye can cause Tyndall effect, migration, or lymphatic blockage. Practitioner skill matters more than product choice for both treatments.

How do I know if my skin is too thin for filler?

The pinch test is a reasonable starting point — if the skin feels noticeably thin or crepey between your fingers, or if you can clearly see blood vessels through it, your skin may not tolerate filler well. A proper clinical assessment is still essential. At consultation the practitioner will assess your skin thickness directly and tell you whether filler is advisable for your anatomy.

If polynucleotides do not give me the result I want, can I still have filler afterwards?

Yes. Polynucleotides improve the skin and do not prevent filler being used later. In fact, having polynucleotides first often makes subsequent filler results better, because the thicker, healthier skin holds the filler more naturally. Typically wait four to six weeks after the final polynucleotide session before assessing whether filler would add value.
